As every school teacher will no doubt tell you organising a large group
on a day trip is not an easy task. (The group for the 2007 walk was
made up of 89 walkers).
The day starts at Stackpole Quay. Skanda Vale organisers hand out
packed lunches,
coffee, tea, biscuits and the walkers excitedly disperse into groups -
reacquainting themselves with old friends and meeting new people. Sister
Carol, then, as usual, has to stand on a chair to bring some order to
the gathering. Eventually with many threats of “see me after school” or
threatening to remove house points walkers are packed on to the right
minibus or car and are driven off to the start of their chosen 3,7 or 10
mile walk.
You will have to come on the walk next year to understand why so many
people keep coming back. Its not just the fantastic coastal scenery –
the secluded bays, the cliff top views. or the chance to see nature
close up – seals, choughs, orchids. Its the whole experience... the fun,
the company, the food… and all for a good cause.

*Handing essays in
is, of course, a joke, but if you do feel like writing about your
day, or if you have any photos why don’t you write an article for
next year’s Newsletter?
