Skanda Vale’s temple elephant ‘Valli’ goes on her daily walk with Swami Karuna, her keeper for over 35 years.
Each day Valli walks around ten kilometres through Skanda Vale’s mixed woodland. She is free to browse and pick what branches, grasses and foliage she wants to eat from the forest, so she enjoys a unusually varied and healthy diet.
During our recent cold spell, Valli stayed indoors in her new elephant house, but as soon as the temperature rose, she was back out in the woods. Strangely, the cold and damp Welsh weather seems to bother her less than the heat of summer – she really hates the midges and flies.
