What is a hospice?
Skanda Vale Hospice is where we care for families who have been affected by life limiting illnesses. Some of the people we care for may have cancer, heart failure, stroke or muscular dystrophy, for example. We manage physical symptoms, and help people find dignity, peace of mind and acceptance of the challenges they face.
Love in action
The monks and nuns of Skanda Vale work full time at the hospice as volunteers. None of us are paid. We have been doing this work for over 20 years, as a fully qualified, professional team. Caring for others is a very important part of our spiritual lives.Meet our team
Whole person care
Being diagnosed with a serious illness can affect us emotionally, socially and spiritually… not just physically. So our team offers holistic (whole person) care – treating every patient as an individual, and making sure their families are well taken care of too.

What’s it really like?
One of our patients shares her moving story of what it’s actually like, being cared for at Skanda Vale Hospice…
A volunteer’s story
Life within this building is probably not what most people would imagine it to be. It’s a happy place, it’s full of laughter… really! It’s about giving people the space and the freedom to enjoy the life that remains for them.
Care for everyone
We care for anybody over the age of 18 who has been diagnosed with a life limiting illness with palliative care needs. We primarily serve Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire, but can accept referrals from further afield. All of our services are offered completely free of charge.
