Lingastakam
brahma murāri surārchita liṅgam
nirmala bhāsita śobhita liṅgam |
janmaja duḥkha vināśaka liṅgam
tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva liṅgam || 1 ||
The liṅga which is worshipped by Brahma, Viṣṇu and the gods;
the liṅga which is stainless, shining, and beautiful;
the liṅga which is the destroyer of sorrow arising from birth –
I bow to that liṅga [symbol] of the Eternal Śiva.
deva muni pravarārchita liṅgam
kāma daham karuṇākara liṅgam |
rāvaṇa darpa vināśaka liṅgam
tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva liṅgam || 2 ||
The liṅga, which is worshipped by the gods and the best of ascetics;
destroyer of desire; the compassionate liṅga;
the liṅga that destroyed Rāvaṇa’s arrogance –
I bow to that liṅga [symbol] of the Eternal Śiva.
sarva sugandhi sulepita liṅgam
buddhi vivardhana kāraṇa liṅgam |
siddha surāsura vandita liṅgam
tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva liṅgam || 3 ||
The liṅga, which is anointed with every variety of fragrance;
the liṅga, which causes an increase in intelligence;
the liṅga, which is extolled by accomplished beings, gods and demons –
I bow to that liṅga [symbol] of the Eternal Śiva.
kanaka mahā maṇi bhūṣita liṅgam
phani pati veṣṭita śobhita liṅgam |
dakṣa suyajña vināśaka liṅgam
tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva liṅgam || 4 ||
The liṅga, which is adorned with great gems and gold;
the liṅga beautified, draped with the lord of snakes;
the liṅga, which destroyed the great sacrifice of Dakṣa –
I bow to that liṅga [symbol] of the Eternal Śiva.
kuṅkuma chandana lepita liṅgam
paṅkaja hāra suśobhita liṅgam |
sañchita pāpa vināśaka liṅgam
tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva liṅgam || 5 ||
The liṅga, which is smeared in saffron and sandal paste;
the liṅga, which is adorned with a lotus garland;
the liṅga, which destroys accumulated wickedness –
I bow to that liṅga [symbol] of the Eternal Śiva.
deva gaṇārchita sevita liṅgam
bhāvair bhaktibhir eva cha liṅgam |
dinakara koṭi prabhākara liṅgam
tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva liṅgam || 6 ||
The liṅga, which is honoured and served
with devotion and feeling by the gods and the gaṇa [Śiva’s troops];
the liṅga, whose brilliance is that of ten million suns –
I bow to that liṅga [symbol] of the Eternal Śiva.
aṣṭa dalo pariveṣṭita liṅgam
sarva samudbhava kāraṇa liṅgam |
aṣṭa daridra vināśaka liṅgam
tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva liṅgam || 7 ||
The liṅga, which is enveloped in an eight-petalled lotus;
the liṅga, which is the cause and origin of all;
the liṅga, which destroys the eight types of deprivation –
I bow to that liṅga [symbol] of the Eternal Śiva.
sura guru sura vara pūjita liṅgam
sura vana puṣpa sadārchita liṅgam |
parāt paraṃ paramātmaka liṅgam
tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva liṅgam || 8 ||
The liṅga, which is worshipped by the teacher of gods and the best of gods;
the liṅga, which is worshipped with flowers from the garden of the gods;
the liṅga, which is better than the most superior –
I bow to that liṅga [symbol] of the Eternal Śiva.
Phala
liṅgāṣṭakam idaṃ puṇyaṃ
yaḥ paṭhet śivasannidhau |
śiva lokam avāpnoti śivena saha modate ||
He who reads this auspicious liṅgāṣṭakaṃ [octet to the liṅga]
in the presence of Śiva, attains the abode of Śiva and rejoices with Him.
